After a national search that drew nearly 200 accomplished applicants from across the country, the LSU Health Foundation Board of Directors has unanimously selected Katie Acuff, Esq. as its new President and Chief Executive Officer. Acuff brings more than two decades of experience in healthcare philanthropy, higher education fundraising, and institutional advancement, having led transformative campaigns and secured major gifts that have shaped the trajectory of nationally recognized institutions.
This leadership transition comes at a transformational time for the LSU Health Foundation. The Foundation is playing a central role in LSU Health Sciences Center’s (HSC) pursuit of National Cancer Institute (NCI) designation—an achievement that would bring expanded access to cancer research funding, advanced clinical trials, and world-class patient care to Louisiana. In addition, the Foundation is supporting several major infrastructure projects at the HSC including the Center for Advanced Learning and Simulation (CALS) — a state-of-the-art facility positioning LSU’s medical and nursing students at the forefront of healthcare education through cutting-edge technology and immersive simulation training.
Acuff’s experience aligns seamlessly with this bold vision. At Tulane University, she built and has led the Principal Gifts program during a capital campaign that has raised over $1.8 billion to date. She secured over $100 million in philanthropic support and fostered lasting relationships with some of the institution’s most generous donors. Notably, she is considered the architect of Tulane’s Innovation Institute, which has garnered over $25 million in commitments and is leading the university’s efforts in translational research and startup investments. She also recently secured over $17 million to support geriatric initiatives and capital improvements at Tulane’s School of
Medicine.
A seasoned executive collaborator, Acuff has worked closely with university presidents, board members, deans, and medical leaders to champion transformational initiatives and deliver measurable impact.
“Katie Acuff is an extraordinary leader who brings a rare combination of strategic vision, fundraising acumen, and collaborative spirit,” said Al Bienvenu, Chair of the LSU Health Foundation Board. “Her proven ability to secure principal gifts, build trusted relationships, and guide complex campaigns will be instrumental as we support the LSU Health Sciences Center through this era of tremendous growth and opportunity.”
“As the LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans advances toward NCI designation and expands its academic and clinical footprint, the role of the Foundation is more vital than ever,” said Dr. Steve Nelson, Chancellor of LSU Health New Orleans. “Katie’s leadership, integrity, and track record of results will amplify our ability to serve patients, train the next generation of healthcare providers, and transform health outcomes across Louisiana and beyond.”
Acuff holds a Juris Doctorate from The Catholic University of America, an MBA from Tulane University, and a B.A. in International Economics and Finance. She is licensed to practice law in Virginia and has served on numerous nonprofit boards focused on education, youth, and global health.
Her first day as President and CEO is scheduled for May 19th.
