About Us

History

The Foundation was formed in 1988 and organized as a 501(c)3 nonprofit, tax-exempt, public charity to support and promote the charitable, scientific and educational mission of the LSU Health Sciences Center. Incorporation was guided by the School of Medicine Alumni Association supporting the LSU Medical Center. In 1999, the LSU campus transitioned to become the LSU Health Sciences Center comprised of six schools: Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Allied Health Professions, Public Health and Graduate Studies. The Foundation also transitioned to become a support organization for the six schools and executed a uniform affiliation agreement with the LSU System in 1999 defining its role as a recognized LSU affiliated organization. Through its current and past leadership, the Foundation’s assets have grown from $2 million in 1988 to over $200 million today.

Mission

Our mission is to inspire donors to invest in the LSU Health Sciences Center – New Orleans (“HSC”) and its future and to properly steward those contributions. To help meet the ever evolving needs of the LSU Health Sciences Center – New Orleans by providing new philanthropic and business resources, partnerships, programs, real estate and property leases, auxiliary businesses and other services that support and strengthen the educational and community mission of the LSU Health Sciences Center.

What is the LSU Health Foundation?

The LSU Health Foundation is LSU Health New Orleans’s primary academic fundraising support organization. The LSU Health Foundation New Orleans is an institutionally-related 501(c)(3) organization that supports LSU Health New Orleans and its fourfold mission of education, patient care, research, and community outreach.

The LSU Health Foundation and the LSU School of Medicine Alumni Association are separate LSU Health New Orleans support organizations that work together. The Alumni Association focuses on helping alumni maintain close ties with the university; the LSU Health Foundation focuses on providing academic support for LSU Health through philanthropy.

Yes! We are, first and foremost, a donor-centric nonprofit. You can choose from a multitude of funds supporting the areas at LSU Health that are most important to you. Your gifts support excellence through unrestricted, flexible spending, as well as scholarships, facility upgrades, residency programs, faculty research, community outreach and so much more.
An endowment is a charitable gift that is invested and managed in a way that allows it, over time, to provide an income stream to the beneficiary while maintaining the gift’s purchasing power in perpetuity.
Your gift receipt amount is tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. No goods or services were provided in exchange for your donation. For instance, if you support the Foundation by purchasing an item at an auction or a ticket to a fundraising event, the value of the goods or services will be included with the receipt. That way you can calculate the deductible amount on your taxes.
The LSU Foundation is classified by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)3 charitable organization, which means your donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. We are also eligible to receive donations from donor advised funds. Our federal tax I.D. is 72-1115391.
Unless you request otherwise, your name and gift will be acknowledged in Foundation publications such as our annual newsletter. If you choose, you may request anonymity.
