The research team also identified cascades of gene responses as an integrated inflammatory signaling landscape, shedding light on potential new therapeutic avenues. Results are published in the Nature journal Scientific Reports, available here.

- [White Coat Ceremony – A Rite of Passage for Medical Students](https://lsuhealthfoundation.org/white-coat-ceremony-rite-passage-medical-students/): The White Coat Ceremony is a tradition that began at the LSU Health New Orleans School of Medicine in 1997. The school holds its annual White Coat Ceremony in the fall each year, where first-year medical students receive white coats and stethoscopes, visible symbols of patient care. During the ceremony, students are “coated” by faculty members who are committed to medical education. Once coated, each student receives a Cardiology grade stethoscope from LSU Health Foundation leadership and White Coat Ceremony Presenting Sponsors, generously donated by alumni, parents, family, and friends.

The Mental Health Support Hotline will provide first responders and other crisis support personnel with helpful counseling and behavioral health professional interventions. - [Research Infectious Diseases Fund](https://lsuhealthfoundation.org/research-infectious-diseases-fund/): Paul Fidel, Ph.D. and Michael Hagensee, MD are leading the charge to secure funding to study the administration of an unrelated live attenuated vaccine, such as MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) and how it could serve as a preventive measure against the worst conditions of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). There is mounting evidence that live attenuated vaccines may protect against subsequent lethal infections, such as progressive lung inflammation and eventual sepsis. A clinical trial with MMR in high-risk populations may serve as a “low-risk/high-reward” preventive measure in saving lives during this unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic.

- [LSU Health New Orleans Leads U.S. Recruitment for Advanced Prostate Cancer Clinical Trial](https://lsuhealthfoundation.org/lsu-health-new-orleans-leads-u-s-recruitment-for-advanced-prostate-cancer-clinical-trial/): LSU Health New Orleans Scott Cancer Center has enrolled the first patients in the United States in a National Cancer Institute/Southwest Oncology Group clinical trial for men whose prostate cancer has spread. The Phase III multi-center trial will compare the outcomes of treating men diagnosed with metastatic Stage 4 prostate cancer with standard systemic therapy or with standard systemic therapy in combination with either surgery or radiation therapy.
